After several years of supporting roles opposite Adam Sandler in Just Go With It, Danny McBride in 30 Seconds or Less and scene stealing turns on TV in Reno 911 and his Comedy Central series Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time, the moment is now for this comedy chameleon.
Movie Fanatic just came from our exclusive video interview with Swardson (and castmates Kevin Nealon and Stephen Dorff) that will premiere next week and in person this is a comic whose feet are firmly planted on the ground. He knows this is his first headlining role and he is taking the opportunity seriously.
In Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star, Swardson is the title character who learns that his Midwestern parents were huge porn stars in the 1970s. Bucky decides that continuing in the family business is his destiny so he leaves Iowa and heads out to L.A. seeking fame and fortune.
The film is from the laugh factory of Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions.
Once in Los Angeles, Bucky meets a waitress who dreams of becoming one of the best waitresses in the city (Christina Ricci), moves in with a perpetually angry roommate (Nealon), connects with a washed up porn director seeking a second chance (Don Johnson) and becomes the subject of the ire of the biggest porn star in the Valley, Dick Shadow (Dorff) -- who believes Bucky will steal his, um… thunder.
